Yo guys, what's good?
Az here, with another installment of Quick Cuts.
Today we are taking a look at Monica, the Guard Captain.
Let's get into it.
Skills
Passive: Monica's Passive is Focused Shot 2, marking the target with a Focus Fire Mark and decreasing their Dodge/Block for 1 round on basic attacks.
She will gain 1 Mana, if the target dies while marked.
S1: Deals 150% damage to a single enemy. Additionally afflicts Frostburn, dealing 65% damage for 3 rounds. Mana Cost: 2
S2: Deals 420% Piercing damage to a single target. Mana Cost: 4
Gear and Stats
I leveled all her gear to 30 and took 2 of the better pieces to 40.
These are her stats.
I tried to equip her with Attack Speed as my focus and then trying to bump up her Critical Damage.
Usually we would just leave it at that, but we are actually comparing her to Deradan and
Yao, to give you a better sense of her Damage.
Afterwards we take her into Dungeons, where she is a required unit if you don't have or want to use Reedmarie.
Damage Test
We will do all damage comparisons on Chapter 10 Episode 11.
This is the same stage I did all my other Damage Testing as well, so I already have mitigation values to compare to.
You can see her Damage in comparison with the other heroes in the table.
A new thing I found out is that Defense scales with the hit.
At 1000 Damage, the mitigation is roughly 50% against 2200 Defense.
At 2000 Damage, the mitigation is roughly 58% against 2200 Defense.
At 4000 Damage, the mitigation is roughly 65% against 2200 Defense.
Basically if you double your Damage, the mitigation continues linearly.
Or for every 1000 Damage increase, the mitigation halves.
But that's off the point.
Monica's Damage is unfortunately nothing special. She goes in line with her multipliers and with the roughly 15% Defense piercing bonus.
Her multiplier is equivalent to around 500% regular Damage, in case you wondered.
Now, she brings utility for PVE with her Damage over Time, so let's quickly run a Blessing Dungeon to see how she performs.
In the run we take my usual team of Bathory, Weiler and the two mandatory Heroes with us. Monica filled in for Bernadette.
When you already have a strong team, I don't think she will be beneficial for you.
Her role would be that of a supplementary breaker and damage Dealer.
If you are still early or mid game and don't have a lot of choices you could take her, but even then I wouldn't bring her.
Since we got Bernadette as a gift she doesn't really seem to have role.
She is required in one Dungeon and outside of that I wouldn't bring her. The other Dungeons will make better use of somebody like Spica or Lepin for the additional support.
Should you have Valentina or Reedmarie, they would be a better overall choice.
Her Piercing Damage multiplier doesn't warrant to bring her.
Piercing Damage in the current state simply doesn't do enough at 15%.
If it was at 30%, she and other Piercing Damage dealers would have a better spot.
With all that said, I really hope you enjoyed this installment of Quick Cuts.

Let me know in the comments what you think about her.
As always it was a pleasure to have you here and I will see you in the next one.
Until then, enjoy the Grind.
